Donations Welcome
Do you know anyone who is moving or downsizing? St. Andrew’s Quilting Group needs donations of good quality yarn and cotton fabric to continue supporting St. Andrew’s United Church and local charities through their annual Quilt Sale. Please call Anne, 780-452-4454 for further information. Thank you for your support!
History of the Quilters
Over 50 years ago a group of women from St. James United Church in Edmonton began making bedrolls for the men who were going up north to work on the DEW (Distant Early Warning) line. The men were little prepared for the harsh climate they would encounter.
When St. James closed in 1992, the women moved their project to St. Andrew’s and the focus became making quilts for the Bissell Centre. With the donation of quality fabric and yarns, the group continues to use the proceeds of their annual quilt and afghan sale to expand their charitable efforts in the community.
Quilts have been donated to various community organizations over the years, such as YESS (Youth Empowerment and Support Services), Women’s Emergency Accommodation Centre, Wings of Providence, Kids’ Cottage and the George Spady Centre to name just a few.
Every Tuesday morning, 20 creative seamstresses can be found, enjoying each other’s company and the companionship and socializing that goes with sewing beautiful quilts which are so appreciated in the community. They enjoy fellowship over lunch and then work on into the afternoon.
The ladies of the quilting group are an inspiration to all of us and they always welcome new members.
